Honor Your Body At Epiphany Pilates

Honor your body. This simple three-word statement is the foundation upon which Epiphany Pilates is built. In fact, you may have heard us use it in the studio...quite a few times, actually.

Honoring your body encompasses so much. Yes, it certainly means avoiding exercises that feel wrong and that are painful. While at the same time, it means exploring modifications that work for your body. That's one of the most amazing benefits of Pilates - each movement can be carefully dissected and fashioned to our individual and unique bodies.

However, honoring your body goes much deeper than just this. It's about feeling comfortable in your own skin, appreciating where you are today and throwing out society's notions of perfection. It's about seeing your body for the phenomenal, amazing organism that it truly is, as well as your body's unending potential for growth and change. At the end of the day, it's about loving ourselves and recognizing how beautiful we absolutely are. Like a handmade quilt, each patch represents a portion of our journey, woven together to create something exquisite and unrepeatable. Frankly, it's the imperfections in the stitching that make each quilt so unique and stunning; likewise with our bodies, it's the hurdles that we've overcome and the scars that we bear as mementos.

As many of you know, an important moment in my journey involved discovering Pilates as a size-24, young mom struggling to hold it all together. From the very beginning, I had to learn to make every single exercise fit with my body. But ultimately, it was the mind-body connection that enabled me to find balance in my life and to begin to honor my body. My hope is that Epiphany Pilates inspires you to do the same. We are thrilled to be a part of your journey and we are always happy to help you modify exercises and to figure out what works best for you as you honor your body too.
